Have you noticed how often the phrase “stirred up to anger” is used in the end of the Book of Mormon? Hardly a chapter goes by without mention of someone stirring the pot internally or trying to convince one group to go to war against the other.
I have certainly felt this “stirring” within me from time to time, especially when I have been hurt by others or life is not as easy as I’d like it to be.
And yet we know that contention “is of the devil” and that “such things should be done away” (3 Nephi 11:30).
Let us resist the temptation to be stirred up to anger and instead be stirred up “in remembrance of the Lord” (Hel 11:34). Let us forgive frankly and repent humbly.
Remember that “contention is a tool of the adversary. Peace is a tool of our Savior.” (Elder Marvin J. Ashton, Oct 1987 General Conference).
